In the middle of 1995, a small group of Bali-based parents began to gather, informally, to discuss the future of their children's education. Over the ensuing weeks, the discussions grew larger and rather than occurring by chance, meetings were scheduled and ideas were exchanged. What brought those parents together to form the Dyatmika Sekar Bawana Foundation is what holds those parents together today. It is the innate desire of all parents to provide the best for their children.

Equipped with little more than commitment and common sense, the members of the original founding school board faced an enormous task. There was no location for the school, no building, no teachers, no school policy and very little community support. No one on the board had any training in education and funding was limited to a small contribution the founders brought to each weekly meeting. After several fruitless months of waiting for grants and donations it was decided to establish the school first. Dyatmika School thus began in December 1995 as a parent-funded venture. |

After a long search for a site, construction of the school broke ground in March 1996, and in August of the same year the school opened classes one through four with 23 students, 5 teachers and 4 support staff. The school enrollment for 1997 initially increased to 37 students in classes one through five, though those numbers quickly expanded to 58. By the school's third academic year 1998-1999, the school grew to 93 students in classes one through six, and employed 27 full and part time teachers and staff. Now in our 13th year, Dyatmika currently enrolls 315 students in a playgroup-12 program.
It has not only been through the efforts of the founders that the school has grown. An active and committed parent's association was formed during the school's first year and has contributed immensely to the school. Major fundraising events have been conceived of and implemented by the PTFA-the parents, teachers and friends association.
